This web based application would be a great companion to HeavyJob users. I recently trained a company and they were very pleased with Fieldwire as it handles plans and other documents and is very strong in the revision document area. You can even try it out for free and see if you like it.  This is a much better solution to a shared drive or ftp site as it has powerful plans document control features.
