Managing HeavyBid & Updates – Part 1
This is going to be multi-blog series on managing HeavyBid. One of the most important functions of managing HeavyBid is periodically updating it when a new release comes out. One way to tell if your company is really managing HeavyBid is to ask the question – “who is responsible for making the decision to update HeavyBid to a newer version?” So let me tell you what the wrong answer is. It is the IT department or IT consultant. First, they don’t want to update anything unless they have to. It is not uncommon to find companies using HeavyBid versions greater 2 to 3 years old which equates to being behind 4 to 6 major updates. That is a lot of updates and the only reason they finally update is that I tell them how far behind they are. The second reason that the IT department should not be the decision making entity is they are not checking for updates. So who is responsible? It is whoever is managing HeavyBid which is usually one or more of the estimators. Someone has to be tagged with the overall managing of HeavyBid – it does not manage itself. Whoever is designated with this responsibility will then schedule the update and inform the IT department that on this date and time they are to run the update.
Where can you see what updates are available for download? At the HCSS Community Website. LINK Proceed to the “My Software Section” and then to which HCSS product you are interested in.
It doesn’t matter if you have one license or 500, HeavyBid has to be managed. So first get the latest update. That is a good place to start.
