The above HCSS webinar is one that most of you who read my blog should watch. HCSS is accelerating its development of HeavyBid Web to be the replacement of HeavyBid Desktop (my opinion) and the main points of this webinar are the following:

  1. Introduce to its customers the ability to have one or more licenses of Web along with Desktop. You can do this on your own in Credentials. Watching Aaron show the procedure makes me recommend calling Support and have them walk you through the process. But before that, you’ll most likely call your HCSS Account Executive to see what a seat costs. It is not free, nor can you substitute a seat you have. Now if you have a seat you are not using maybe that can be swapped out. Consult with HCSS.
  2. The other focus of the webinar is introducing the ability of exporting from HeavyBid Desktop to HeavyBid Web saving a lot of time for the migration. The development team at HCSS has been busy the last few months and I think with this feature more companies are going to be interested in migrating over to Web.

Aaron has some interesting remarks around the 27:28 minute mark where a listener asks how long HeavyBid Desktop will be available? My take- if you are a fairly large company around next year purchase a HeavyBid Web seat and assign an estimator to start learning it. Companies that are not watching these types of webinars are going to be caught off guard and that is not a situation you want to be in. Also, in the webinar, Aaron referred back to the last UGM where migration was discussed and critical information was discussed that I have not heard before. Medium and large companies should be sending at least one person to each UGM to get this type of information as it is not being released in any other medium that I can find. I am not being critical of HCSS as I am sure it is a fluid situation to them also. My prediction is that HeavyBid Desktop Version 2026 to be released just before 2027 UGM will be the last update for Desktop.

Here is a screen shot of migrating HB Desktop setup data to HB Web.

Aaron also does a quick run through of HB Web which I appreciated and you can appreciate features in Web that are not available in Desktop. Melissa keeps the webinar moving as she fields questions and she is key to seeing that customers are educated on what the migation path will be as eventually everyone will have to migrate to HeavyBid Web.

For those who want to go out to the Academy and launch the webinar from there here is a screen shot.
