Occasionally I train a new customer who incorrectly assumes that HCSS provides cost data for estimating. Usually, in these cases, the company wants a relatively inexperienced estimator to be able to put together complex estimates for work their company has not historically performed. This misunderstanding of what Heavybid does reveals a lack of knowledge of estimating overall. First and foremost HeavyBid is intended for the professional estimator.  Now HeavyBid does have a link to a subscription service for RS- Means and Richardson, but would any experienced estimator estimating hard-bid estimates depend on this data? Of course not.  There are too many other factors to consider and a company would be foolish to take this data without evaluating it through the experienced estimator and project construction team. Now these subscription services are useful to compare an estimators assumptions or to perform budget estimates, but companies that perform any type of Heavy/Highway/Utility estimates do not use this data as a basis of estimating – they depend on their own experience and historical cost data. Yes HeavyBid is scalable in that a company can increase its bidding volume and project size but the experience of an estimator is still a huge part of the equation. So in conclusion HCSS does not provide cost data to it customers but it does provide the best tool on the market for an estimator.
