I love the new subtotals in HeavyBid. They don’t take up a bid item anymore and have more features. If you are the type of contractor that either makes up your own bid form (client does not provide one) or have standard bid forms where you can predict the sections where the subtotals go then build the subtotals and headers in the Master Estimate so they are preset. Just make sure the bid items fall in the range of the subtotals. Below is an example of a master estimate with no biditems but the subtotals are set up for ranges.
