This is a new term for me. I learned it while in a technical session at HCSS’ office in Sugarland. True not much in the software development world is applicable to the construction industry but this can ported over with little effort. In any office with four or more estimators (even two estimators will work too) one person should be in charge of the continuing maintenance of HeavyBid. They “own” the process thus the term “Process Owner”. They would be responsible for the following:

  • Maintaining the integrity of the Master estimate(s)
  • Maintaining the integrity of the System Wide codebooks
  • Updating codebooks to keep them current
  • Update HeavyBid to the latest version and learn the new features and revisions. Educate all estimators on the new update.
  • Establishing a common estimating workflow for the estimating team
  • If the company has multiple offices the above becomes more complex (maybe I will address a multi-office setup in another blog)

So the recommendation is if your company does not have a HeavyBid Process Owner start the discussion now and work towards designating someone on the team to own the process.
