I have to be upfront on the field that everybody sees when they create an estimate but usually ignore it. The field I am referring to is the “optional description” as shown below. I too in training pretty much ignore the field but while the access to the information is somewhat limited it can be useful for companies with a large number of estimates.

So when an estimator is looking for an estimate they can go to File>Open and then click on Options before opening up the estimate. If the Team is disciplined entering even basic information the estimator can make the decision if they want to open the estimate and continue their search. If I was leading an estimating team I would require a short description with some major item quantities and if a private bid contact information who the project was quoted to. Now I wish the field could be visible in the Cross Estimate Query and the copy from other estimates screen (I will log that suggestion) but I think any mid-size to large company the field could have some value. It even has spell check! I always joke that spell check is available for fields where it is not needed. So rethink this field and see if it would be useful for your team.
