I train companies that use composite labor and equipment rates in their estimates. The problem with this method of bidding is that the estimator does not know true costs (for budget) or a real profit margin to evaluate the project. That is why companies that bid public work projects like DOT work don’t use this method. When a service-type construction company purchases HeavyBid it is usually because they want to transition to hard bid projects. What I show in the video will aid in the transition. This can also be used for change orders where agreed-upon rates have been established by the contract but an estimate is still required before the change order work can commence. A price can be developed with backup and a cost budget can be determined so that the construction budget can be adjusted.
