I keep running into estimators who, in AASHTOware or any of the state DOT’s formats (there are many), export to Excel first. THIS IS VERY INEFFICIENT!!!! (I think I am trying to make a point here). Watch the video linked below even if you are a DOT bidder.

These are the issues with exporting to Excel. Every estimate the fields are going to have to be matched up before importing. When the pricing is done the estimator has to match up the field again in the state’s software to import it. But if you use the correct method it is just a click of a button to export back to the original file.

This workflow is probably 5 times faster than exporting from HeavyBid back out to Excel and then importing and matching fields in the state’s software.

Summary – if you are using Excel to import and export biditems and prices you are doing it the hard way.
