I am always talking up and bragging about HCSS Tech Support. If you want to be a power user of any HCSS software product you have to be calling Tech Support with your questions. But sometimes, the question crosses the line from a technical question to a question more about estimating or the combination of the two. That is where you need an expert not only on HeavyBid but also an estimator, and HCSS does not have that in-house. Who has that expertise? All the HeavyBid contract trainers. So here is my suggestion. First, I just don’t take any call from a user, but I will usually take a call from someone whom I provided post-implementation services (the company goes direct with me). I have trained hundreds of companies, so I can’t field tech support calls but for companies that provide me business, I feel an obligation to answer that quick question. And knowing most of the other trainers well they will do the same. So what is a good investment? Secure the services of one of the contract trainers even if it is a one-day virtual session. And when you have that tough estimating question, you will get a good answer that might very well pay for the training. Case in point. I had two companies on the same day call me about a feature they knew was in HeavyBid but couldn’t find it. They could have called Tech Support, but it is really hard to communicate the question so the support tech can give the right answer. I have had many people tell me this for this particular feature, and they had to call me. But for both users, I knew what they wanted in about 5 words and these were companies that I provide training services to on a regular basis. Always call Support first but then you would have an option if you don’t like their answer.
